Questions from the Public for Written Response:
1) Will the Council alter the signage at the junction of Westgate Rd and Foxgrove Road? On the approach from the cricket club, there is a 20-mph sign which is followed by a 30 mph sign at the school junction. There is no 20 mph sign coming the other way.
When this location was previously considered for another part-time 20mph flashing sign, it was decided that the existing vehicle activated sign on the westbound approach to the junction was sufficient.
2) Why penalise our local shopping parade with this proposal [conversion of time-limited parking bays to cashless pay-bays]? Some shops are already empty. Where is your evidence that the free bays are being abused? Why should residents pay via a phone app (if able) to park for a few minutes to collect dry cleaning or post heavy parcels?
The experience at other shopping parades shows that introducing charges ensures that the spaces are not occupied by long term parking. Enforcing the time limit costs the Council money, and this is paid by the user not the council taxpayer. A motorist can buy short periods of time rather than pay for a full hour.
3) Conversion of time limited parking bays to cashless pay-bays: Sundridge Park (Plaistow Lane), BR1.
I question the above proposal which will adversely impact mainly individual businesses where on average drivers park between 5 and 10 minutes to post letters, collect dry cleaning etc. How much net additional revenue will imposing charges raise for Bromley Council? Is that sum worth alienating local residents and businesses?
